Prepare to explore two of Spain’s most iconic cities on this private guided tour of Ávila and Salamanca , designed to offer you an enriching experience. This tour combines history, culture, and exclusivity with the convenience of a customized itinerary and expert guides who will enrich each stop with fascinating stories and anecdotes.

What will we see on the guided tour of Ávila?

Our day will begin with a transfer from your hotel in Madrid to Ávila, a journey of approximately 2 hours. Ávila, known as the “City of Walls ,” is famous for being one of the finest examples of medieval architecture in Europe and for its role in Spain’s religious history.

Walls of Ávila

We’ll begin our visit by exploring the iconic Walls of Ávila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site . These fortifications, built in the 11th century, completely encircle the historic center, stretching over 2.5 kilometers and featuring 87 towers and 9 monumental gates. Among the most outstanding are the Alcázar Gate and the San Vicente Gate , from which you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views.

Ávila Cathedral

We will continue to Ávila Cathedral, considered the first Gothic cathedral in Spain . Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, its imposing semicircular apse forms part of the city walls, making it a unique religious fortress.

Inside, the highlights include the main altarpiece , carved in polychrome wood, and the stained-glass windows that cast a special light throughout the space. We will also visit the Cardinal’s Chapel, which houses priceless sculptures and sacred art.

Convent of Saint Teresa

Our next stop will be the Convent of Santa Teresa, built in the 17th century on the site of the birthplace of Saint Teresa of Ávila. This iconic place is not only a pilgrimage site but also a space steeped in spirituality and art. Inside, you’ll find a Baroque church that houses relics of the saint and a museum dedicated to her life and legacy, with personal belongings and works of art that tell her story.

After exploring the historic center of Ávila, we will enjoy lunch in one of the city’s traditional restaurants, where you can taste typical dishes such as Yemas de Santa Teresa and the Ávila T-bone steak.

What will we see on the guided tour of Salamanca?

After lunch, we will head to Salamanca, a vibrant city steeped in history and a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Known as the “Golden City” for the distinctive golden hue of its sandstone, Salamanca is a cultural and architectural landmark of Spain.

Plaza Mayor of Salamanca

We’ll begin our visit in the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain and an iconic example of 18th-century Baroque architecture. This square, surrounded by arches and buildings with intricate sculptural details, is the social heart of Salamanca. Its vibrant atmosphere and sculpted portraits of historical figures make it a must-see for any visitor.

Old Cathedral and New Cathedral

We will continue to the Cathedrals of Salamanca, two imposing buildings that represent centuries of history. The Old Cathedral , built between the 12th and 13th centuries, is a jewel of Romanesque and early Gothic architecture. Its Rooster Tower , crowned with a Byzantine dome, and the main altarpiece, with 53 panels painted by Nicolás Florentino, are particularly noteworthy. Beside it, the New Cathedral , built between the 16th and 18th centuries, combines Renaissance and Baroque styles, with a monumental façade that is sure to impress.

Corrillo Arch and Corrillo Square

From the Plaza Mayor, we’ll reach the Arco del Corrillo, an architectural transition that connects the Plaza Mayor with the Plaza del Corrillo. This historic corner retains its medieval essence, with stone arcades and traditional houses that once housed shops and taverns. The Plaza del Corrillo is ideal for enjoying the tranquility and admiring unique details such as the sculptural group of Saint Martin.

House of Shells

Our final stop will be the Casa de las Conchas (House of Shells), a 15th-century Gothic building decorated with over 300 stone shells on its façade, a symbol of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James ). This former Plateresque palace is one of Salamanca’s most emblematic buildings, and inside it houses a Renaissance courtyard that reflects the architectural elegance of the period.

After this fascinating  private tour of Ávila and Salamanca , we will return comfortably to your hotel in Madrid, concluding a day full of history, culture and unforgettable landscapes.
