Pulpí Geode Excursion
Pulpí Geode Day Trip
The Pulpí Geode Day Trip is designed to turn a visit to Mina Rica into a complete day out, organized from your departure point through to your return. The Giant Geode is the highlight of the day, but the experience begins much earlier: travel to Pulpí, arrival with enough time before your reserved slot, a guided route through the former mine and continuation of the day according to the program selected.
Madrid Lands organizes day trips from different cities and adapts the schedule around the available Mina Rica entrance time. From Alicante, the experience can continue with the Black Room and Cartagena; from Granada, the route can include the Black Room and MiniHollywood. We also offer departures from other destinations in southeastern Spain for travelers who want to discover the Geode as part of an organized day trip.
If you are already staying in Pulpí or nearby and do not need transfers from another city, you can book this experience directly. Combine the Pulpí Geode and Mina Rica with a visit to an olive oil mill and the Black Room, bringing together geology, mining heritage and local produce in a single day.
Pulpí Geode Day Trip: how we organize the day
A day trip to the Pulpí Geode allows you to visit Mina Rica without having to organize every part of the journey separately. Your departure point may be Alicante, Granada, Mojácar, Almería, Murcia, Cartagena, Águilas or another location we can study, and the day’s schedule is built around the available entrance time for Mina Rica.
Departure is scheduled with enough time to reach El Pilar de Jaravía before the reserved entrance slot. Once inside Mina Rica, the guided visit begins through its galleries, where visitors learn about the site’s mining history, its minerals and the geology behind the formation of the Giant Geode. The official visit lasts approximately two hours and descends to the level where the enormous crystal cavity is located.
The Geode cannot be visited as a separate attraction. To see it, visitors first follow the route through Mina Rica and descend to the fourth level. Here, visitors wait for their turn and look inside through the designated opening, where the scale and transparency of the huge gypsum crystals can be appreciated.
After the main visit, the day trip can continue in different ways. Some routes use the rest of the day to discover other places connected with the mining or cultural heritage of southeastern Spain. The Alicante program continues with the Black Room and Cartagena, while the Granada departure includes the Black Room and MiniHollywood. For other departure cities, the program is adapted according to the starting point and available time.
The aim is for the Pulpí Geode Day Trip to work as a comfortable and well-planned day: a properly timed departure, Mina Rica as the main experience and a logical continuation or return journey depending on the route selected.
